003: Sarah

Sarah Spinks is a friend of mine, and a friend of Vista. She is intimately involved in Vista’s art community, filling key roles in both the Alley Art Festival, and Backfence Society. Sarah has been a tattoo artist here in town, but in recently she has gone back to school to get her teaching credentials. Anyone that knows Sarah knows that she is a fun and energetic person, and she is passionate about politics and making the world a better place.

With Sarah’s energy and personal aesthetic, I was very much looking forward to our shoot together, and I was quite shocked when she showed up at the studio dressed as though she came for a job interview! Either way, we had a lovely time together talking about Vista, of which she is a lifelong resident. You can typically find Sarah hanging around downtown at any number of our great restaurants or breweries.

I’ve known Sarah for several years now, but mostly as a casual acquaintance. Knowing her involvement with, and experience in the art world, she was one of the first people that I consulted when I conceived on this project. She was quick to volunteer her time and to provide feedback, offer support and encouragement, and has even helped me try to get more participants for the project. I am very grateful for her contributions to this project.

Most recently, she encouraged me to get a table at the upcoming 2022 Alley Art Festival, which I have. I look forward to talking to many people about the project at that event.
