The Vistans Project
A personal project, a love letter to my hometown
I was recently talking to one of my photography mentors about getting started as a portrait photographer, and how to get people interested enough to book portrait sessions. One of his suggestions was for me to do as much personal project work as I can, and let the exposure from my work lure people into the studio. It makes sense. How do people know if they want to be photographed by me, if they are unfamiliar with my style and what I’m trying to do.
With that in mind, I have decided to jump headfirst into my first real personal project. This project has been on my mind with a few different iterations for the last few years, but the focus has always remained - to engage with the people of my hometown, and to do something good for them. I’m now committing myself to taking this journey and to see where it lands. In essence, I plan to take portraits of 100 residents of the City of Vista, where I have lived almost my entire life, taking effort to truly show the rich diversity we have here.
If you are interested in following the project, I encourage you to take a look at the website, and to follow along via Instagram. I will be putting a contact form on the website to allow people to sign up for spots, or to nominate people to be subjects in the project.
